• Lovers Lane Birth Center is a midwifery practice offering birth center and home births and well woman gynecological care attended by Certified Nurse Midwive Krystal Brown and Certified Professional Midwife Kristy Hammack. Sonograms at Lovers Lane Birth Center are offered by Jeff Moody at Moody Diagnostics.

  • Healthy women who are free of major medical or obstetric complications and who are seeking an active role in their pregnancy and birth with minimal intervention.

  • Prenatal visits are up to 1 hour and follow the routine frequency guidelines for maternity care. We’re happy to see you as early in your pregnancy as you would like. We measure and palpate physical changes and help you to prepare confidently for the life changes a new baby brings.

Many of our clients opt for minimal lab work but some also choose to do additional testing. We can help you to decide what’s right for you. Your freedom extends beyond birth. It begins with your choices throughout your prenatal care and continues through a detailed birth plan that you design.

We discuss with you ways to enhance your health. This will include in depth discussions about your diet. We may also talk about any supplements that you may be taking as well as possible ideas for alternatives based on your needs. We are comfortable with alternative therapies and many of our clients find herbal or homeopathic medicines useful. Many clients find chiropractic care helpful during pregnancy and we can refer you to providers. Occasionally prescription medicine is called for and we can prescribe that for you as needed.

  • Books are available for loan and you are encouraged to use whatever method works best for you to educate yourself, whether it’s classes, websites, books and videos, or journaling and dream analysis. We have an excellent childbirth educator who offers a compact but complete class at an affordable price. Some clients choose Bradley classes or hypnotherapy. We will help you to find what’s right for you. Addressing your confidence level and ensuring that you are ready to give birth naturally are priorities in prenatal care.

  • When the time comes for your baby’s birth, we will help you to labor and birth in positions which enhance the process and your comfort.

More than half of our clients opt for water birth which is a particularly gentle alternative. We are present throughout our clients’ active labors, bringing in a second midwife to assist us as the birth draws closer. There are no rules or agendas at Lovers Lane Birth Center.

If you tear a little during birth, we can suture you. If you bleed more than is expected, we have medications available to treat that and if your baby needs a little help getting going with breathing, of course we have resuscitation equipment available at every birth. Some women want to be surrounded by family members during the birth, possibly including older children. Others prefer to make it a very intimate time for the parents of the baby only. Those things are your choice.

  • There is no rush to cut the umbilical cord, and the baby stays skin to skin with mom. Gradually, baby begins to breastfeed and integrates into their family. When everybody is ready, the expanded family goes home. This is usually about 3 hours after the birth.

A midwife comes to your house two to three days after the birth to check up on you. She will make sure that breastfeeding is going well and help you if you are having difficulties. She will make sure that you’re adjusting to being a new mother and that you are well cared for. She will take blood for the newborn screening at that time and repeat it at an office visit 2 weeks after the birth.

Six to eight weeks after the birth we have a final visit which may include a complete physical, contraception and pap smear.

  • The fees are about one third of typical physician and hospital charges and are covered by most insurers.

  • We accept the following insurance plans:

United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue, Shield, Cigna, Amerigroup Medicaid

We have affordable cash options with convenient payment plans.

  • Midwifery care is simple, low tech care. By avoiding interventions in the natural course of labor and birth, midwifery clients avoid the risks that those interventions may bring. The safety record for out-of-hospital midwifery care is excellent. This has been demonstrated in numerous research studies and by the great statistics not only of our practice but of home birth and birth center practices across America.

We monitor our clients closely and if there are any concerns, we do not hesitate to call one of the obstetric physicians with whom we have a relationship. In a large metropolitan area such as DFW, medical care is always only a few minutes away if needed.

  • About 10 percent of clients have to transport to the hospital during labor. We accompany transport clients to the hospital, coordinate continuity of care with the hospital staff and provide support.

  • Between two and eight percent annually.

The whole office is great from Stacey front desk on down to the midwives. This was my first experience having a natural birth on 3rd baby and was so nervous to do so. Thankfully to Krystal who was so so awesome to help me during labor and delivering my son I was able to experience such a beautiful birth!!! I totally recommend for anyone seeking natural births to check them out. If I have another baby I will definitely be back!!! Thank you so much Krystal and Dinah!

LLBC is a welcoming space where Krystal and Dinah take time to answer any questions you may have. They make you feel comfortable and care for you and your baby. As a first time mom I felt supported for my entire journey from prenatal care to labor, birth and postpartum.

Krystal is just the best!! You will not find anyone more dedicated and better than her when it comes to midwifery. She is the best in Dallas if you ask me and she owns the birth center. She's the only black owned birth center in Dallas TX. Just come here!! You will not regret it!! She gives the best advice and support and will continue ongoing support after birth.. Thank you Lovers Lane Birth Center staff for all that you did and all that you do.
