Peaceful birth, a peaceful world, trust versus violence

Two days ago twenty-eight people including twenty elementary school children were shot by a troubled man with a gun. The same day, a woman told me during a prenatal visit: "I wanted to let you know that I always carry a gun on my body. I hope that is alright with you."

This woman is pregnant for the ninth time. She has experienced eight peaceful home births. For eight births she trusted her body, she trusted the process of birth. She knew that birth has risks, just as life does, but she chose to birth in a peaceful way, to embrace peace on earth without the violence of intervention that comes with a lack of trust, that comes with hospital risk and fear-based obstetrics.

But she chooses to live her life with fear and a weapon.

This does not make sense to me.
